In 2009 MCO carried out two research studies on behalf of the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) looking at Local Authority energy management in County Development Plans and in the community.
This research subsequently developed into the Sustainable Energy Communities (SEC) Programme, which was launched by SEAI in October 2011. In an Sustainable Energy Community, community members work together to develop a more sustainable pattern of energy demand and supply, with the overall aim to be energy-efficient and to use renewable energy sources as much as possible. The SEC programme will facilitate any community, town or county to work towards becoming a Sustainable Energy Community.
MCO Projects are currently working with SEAI executives to provide strategic advices and operational resources in the planning and implementation of the SEC programme.
