MCO | PRP are currently preparing Guidelines for Universal Design Homes for Ireland, commissioned by the Centre of Excellence in Universal Design (CEUD) at the National Disability Authority.
The project involves consultation with organisations representing people with additional needs, design professionals, the construction industry and housing agencies and authorities. It also gathers soundings, stories and experiences of people in their homes.
The Guidelines will complement the revised CEUD / NDA 2012 document Building for Everyone and will draw on:
- Existing research and analysis carried out by CEUD / NDA of key elements of national and international house design guidance and standards.
- Consultation with key stakeholders to inform and influence the provision of more easily adaptable homes, and improve the quality of life for all people through universal design.
MCO|PRP is an existing partnership with PRP Architects, London, with whom we have previously collaborated on a number of projects, including Great Northern Haven, a demonstration project for independent living in Dundalk that forms part of the Netwell Centre research. PRP has also produced a number of key policy / design guidance documents in the UK.
