Sustainability Indicators for the Dublin Region – a new report from TrinityHaus
Philip attended an event hosted by the Irish Green Building Council (IGBC) at the Tailor's Hall in Dublin yesterday, and discusses some current sustainability initiatives below.
A number of projects have been developed under the umbrella of the Creative Dublin Alliance, a network led by the Dublin City Manager, with members drawn from the most senior level in Local Government, Commerce, Industry, Education, State Agencies and the Not-for-Profit Sector, in the area of sustainability. Click here for more information.
As part of this the 4 Dublin Councils and Dublin Regional Authority have been working with TrinityHaus to develop Sustainability Indicators for the Dublin Region to address the need to measure the city’s current performance that will provide a baseline for future monitoring, allow comparison with other European cities, set targets for future development, and track progress towards these targets. More info here.
The suite of 38 headline indicators will inform the Dublin Regional Sustainability Plan due to be published in 2012, and it is hoped that the indicators will also be incorporated into future local authority development plans. See related Comhar Sustainable Indicators for the entire country here.
City Planner Dick Gleeson also set out how Dublin City Council have integrated sustainability into the City Development Plan at every level, using the Natural Step (see link here).
