Calling all Culture Seekers… Don’t miss month of events at Merrion Square!
What comes to mind when you think of Merrion Square? Alongside the Oscar Wilde connection, the museums and galleries, you probably think of the Georgian Doors on the Square. Beautiful to look at from the outside but what kind of activity is bubbling behind those doors? This autumn, The Merrion Square Initiative supported by Fáilte Ireland are hoping to open those doors to you and give you the opportunity to get to know Merrion Square.
Dublin’s Merrion Square will come alive and throw open its doors on Saturday August 25th 2012 for a special FREE day of events celebrating its rich and diverse heritage - see flyer here. The public can then look forward to September On The Square, a month long series of events bringing visitors on an exciting journey of discovery through art, literature, music, history, architecture and family activities.
The September in The Square activities will include walking tours, mid-week lunchtime music performances and talks in key buildings as well as special events on Culture Night on Friday September 21st. The programme will give people the opportunity to see inside key buildings on the square, and experience events in some of Dublin's most beautiful rooms. There’ll be free musical performances in some of the most beautiful rooms on the Square, walking tours and lunchtime talks that shine a light on the rich history of the square and the characters that have contributed to it over the past 250 years. The full programme will be available from Sat 25th www.merrionsquare.ie.
MCO is delighted to be working with Fáilte Ireland and the Merrion Square Innovation Network to help position Merrion Square in Dublin as a leading cultural tourism destination through a programme of animation, information and marketing. At the heart of Georgian Dublin, Merrion Square has an abundance of strengths from its strong Georgian heritage, cultural institutions, leisure facilities, and its political, social and scientific history. The September on the Square programme was officially launched recently (check out our wonderful Georgian kids) and coverage has been really positive (a selection of articles is linked below).
